Moviebuff has collaborated with the 21st edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) which is being conducted by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy. It is all set to take place at Thiruvananthapuram, in God’s own country, Kerala between the 9th and 16th of December, 2016.
It is a pioneering initiative by the Government of Kerala which aims to promote cinema. Its most celebrated ‘competition section’ consists of a variety of critically acclaimed films from African, Asian and Latin American countries.
The best feature film is being awarded ‘The Golden Crow Pheasant Award’ with a cash prize of ₹15 lakhs (approximately US$30,000) to be shared equally between the director and the producer.
A first of its kind in the country, The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy was set up in 1994, with the aim to promote rightful recognition of the contribution of cinema to the cultural enlightenment of society, guided by the motto that cinema should contribute to the holistic development of an individual.
The core objective of Chalachitra Academy is to link the State Government with the film industry by conducting film festivals all over the state and propagating Malayalam cinema by documenting its history and honoring the superstars and crew members who have contributed largely to the improvement of Malayalam cinema.
The International Jury of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) 2016 consists of filmmakers, theatre artistes and prominent industry personalities from all over the world.
The awards section consists of ‘Suwara Chakoram Award for the Best film’, ‘The Rajatha Chakoram Award for the Best Director’ and more categories including – ‘Best Debuting Director’, ‘Best International Film’ with cash prizes of ₹3 lakhs and above.
