The film festival season continues! Moviebuff is proud to be associated with The International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) for its 22nd edition, which will be held between the 8th and 15th of December 2017 in Thiruvananthapuram.
The film festival will feature a variety of categories, including “Contemporary Masters in Focus”, which will feature movies of Mahamat Saleh Haroun and Michel Franco from Chad and Mexico respectively. Other categories include “Identity and Space”, Contemporary Asian Cinema, Restored Classics, Japanese Animation and a selection of Jury Films.
There is an International Competition section as well, featuring the films of two debutant Malayalam directors—Randu Per (“Two Persons” | Dir: Prem Shankar) and Aedan (Dir: Sanju Surendran). Another category, “Malayalam Cinema Today”, will showcase recent films which have garnered critical acclaim. This includes films such as Take Off, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Karutha Joothan, Angamaly Diaries, Maravi, Athishaynagalude Venal and Naayinte Hridayam.
India’s official submission to the Oscars, Newton, as well as Village Rockstars will also feature in the International Competition.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award is being conferred on iconic Russian director Alexander Sokurov. A retrospective of his six films will be held at the festival. Besides, Retrospectives of films by Lino Brocka, master filmmaker from Philippines and K P Kumaran from India will be screened.
IFFK will pay tribute (via the “Homage” category) to directors Kundan Shah, K R Mohanan, IV Sai and actor Om Puri. Head over to http://iffk.in/ for more information.
